Volume pricing

Pricing improves as your volume grows and stays steady.

The short answer

Yes. Pricing improves as your volume grows and stays consistent.

The two words doing the work there are *grows* and *stays*. It follows sustained volume rather than a single good week, because better pricing comes from what a factory and a lane will do for predictable, repeating quantities.

How to have the conversation

There is no tier table to look up and no threshold to hit. When your volume has been steady for a while, ask.

Bring:

  • What you are shipping now. Orders a month, and which products carry most of it.
  • Where it goes. One concentrated lane prices differently from twenty scattered ones.
  • What it has been doing. A few months of consistency is the argument.
  • Where you expect it to go, honestly rather than optimistically.

This is a normal conversation to have once you are shipping consistently. It is not a negotiation you have to win, and you do not need to threaten to leave to start it.

What actually moves

Product cost comes down with quantity, most on items that are made rather than pulled from a shelf.

Shipping depends on the lane and the volume moving through it, so it moves more when your orders concentrate on one or two destinations.

Holding stock usually prices better than sourcing per order, because buying in quantity is what unlocks a better unit cost in the first place. If you are at steady volume on a proven product and still sourcing per order, that is often the bigger lever than any discount conversation. See Dropshipping mode and DTC mode.

Frequently asked

At what volume does pricing change? There is no published threshold. Ask when your volume is steady. Will you tell me, or do I have to ask? Ask. Does it apply to shipping as well as product cost? Both can move. Will my price go up if my volume drops? Talk to us rather than assuming. Do I need to commit to a minimum? No. There is no minimum contract and no minimum volume.
