Add a product manually
For something that is not in a connected store.
Most of the time you do not need this
Products come across from Shopify on their own when you connect a store, and again whenever you press Sync Products.
If a product is missing, adding it by hand is usually the wrong fix. The cause is almost always a blank or duplicated SKU in Shopify, and adding a second copy here leaves you with two records for one product. Check the SKU first:My Products.
When it is the right thing
- Something you sell outside a connected store
- A product you are setting up before it exists in your shop
- Packaging or a component that is not a sellable product
- A one-off you need for a manual order
Add one
Open My Products and press Add Product.
The product. Name, category, and which store it belongs to. Set an initial stock quantity if you are holding stock.
Options and variants. Add an option, for example Colour, then add a variant under it with its own name, selling price, cost per unit and quantity. Repeat for every variant the product has.
Packaging. Choose Standard packaging or Custom branded. Standard is the neutral default. Pick Custom branded only if you have had your own packaging made, seeCustom packaging.
Save.
Once saved, the product detail view carries more fields you can fill in: base SKU, description, status, selling price and cost per unit. The description is what shows on your store listing.
Give it a SKU, and add the variants
Two things worth getting right the first time.
The SKU is how everything matches. Use the same SKU as your store if the product exists there, so the records line up instead of duplicating.
Add the variants before you save. If a product sells in three sizes, those are three variants with their own SKUs and their own stock levels. A product saved without them cannot track stock per size, and fixing it later is more work than doing it now.
After you add it
A manually added product has no cost until it is priced. It will show a blank Cost and no margin, and it is excluded from your average margin until it has one. To get it priced, seeWhere the products are.
It is not pushed to Shopify. Adding it here does not create it in your store.
Frequently asked
Will it appear in my Shopify store? No. Can I add it here and sell it there? Create it in Shopify and sync, so the two match. Why is Cost blank? It has not been priced yet. Can I import several at once? SeeMy Storesfor syncing from Shopify. I added a duplicate by mistake. Ask support to remove it, so the wrong record does not get used on an order.
